About Jerry Daniel
I retired from teaching in my early 50's because of hearing loss. I taught at art college (18+), secondary school (11-18) and junior school (5-11). I have been involved in photography for 30 years. My retirement has enabled me to devote more time to my art/obsession. I describe my work as pictorial landscape photography. My images use minor landscape features rather than broader traditional views and I hope they are more intimate than a record of a location. Amongst the cultural baggage I bring to the making of pictures are an interest in Romanticism, Graphic design, Early twentieth century Modernism, and Op art. The graphic manipulation of space in Op art of the 1960's has stayed with me since my art college days. When making pictures I look for landscape features which become compositional devices that influence our reading of depth in the 2D picture plane.
